How to Sell Different Services
Everyone has encountered a sales person at some point and time in the life. Some sales people are really knowledgeable while other are hungry to meet a quota. In this article I will give you one piece of advice that will help you in selling services. There are plenty of book on how to sell, but if you don’t know your product, you probably wont sell a thing. Having a personable disposition and some personality will help in the process of selling. The goal of selling is to exchange your goods and services for something of value, in this case…money. While the barter system may suffice for now, money is what pays the creditors. My personal experience in selling came from my brief time (four years) spent as a military recruiter. Product knowledge was essential. Since every recruiter has a minimum of four years of military service, they make great sales men and women because of their military knowledge and experience. I find nothing more irritating that a sales person who is weak in their product knowledge and skill to close a sale. In recruiting, I learned to ask questions when you hear a nugget. A nugget is a piece of important information that could help you close a sale. If a prospect mentions a need and your product or service meets that need, you offer it. How can you offer something that you are not aware of? This is the basic reason product knowledge is important.
Small business will have more than one product or service. When it comes to selling or the opportunity to make a sale, your product knowledge is vital. In my current business of selling domain names and web hosting services. I am aware of and knowledgeable in all of my products and services and how they work. I successfully resell many of my web hosting services and I am aware of all products and their pricing. When I am talking with a potential customer and I hear a need, I can effectively offer a product or service that meets their need and close the sale.
Up selling
Up selling is simply offering additional products or services that will compliment your first item sold. For instance; A customer purchased blog hosting services, it would only be wise to sell them a domain name to go with their blog. Another example would be a customer buying Online File Storage services, depending on their business or nature of the use of this product them may need Fax Through Email services.
Listening to your prospect or potential customer is essential to hearing what their business needs are and meeting these needs with a product or service. Being knowledgeable of your products and services will help you in the sales process and could help increase sales. The one piece of advice to help you sell, Product knowledge, know it!
