How Technology Is Changing the Way We Stay Connected and Socialize
There was a time when you would meet your friends at the local mall or a hotpot after school. The word hotpot has a different meaning because of technology and people will still meet at the mall but everybody has their smart phone in hand and people are busy sending text messages. Remember the time when you would say to someone, send me an email? Or the time when you would say…”fax me”.
Staying connected was some important when I was growing up. I was given a key that I had to wear around my neck and I had to call my mom when I arrived home from school. During the week there were activities where I could be around kids my age doing what teenage guys do. Talk to girls and play some sports. It seems the only things that have defiantly changes is, everybody have a smart phone. Remember when the only people that had a cell phone was lawyers and doctors. How about before there was a cell phone. People would stay connected with a pager. As time progressed it was then called a beeper. Someone paged you, you had to find a phone to return the call to see what the message was. Face time has a new meaning, getting some face time use to mean (and it probably still is) getting face to face with a friend to catch up on times. Many smart phone allow you to have some face time in an instant.
With face time you can virtually be where your loved one is; for instance, if your friend is traveling and they want to share a beautiful scenery with you, they can show you, in real time what they are looking at. You can see the new born baby, look at a rental property and even verify your location by showing it to someone. Technology has redefined the way we stay in touch and the ways we socialize.
Pagers transformed into two way paging devices and teens embraced these devices to stay in touch with their friend. Socializing took on a digital age form. You could meet someone and it was more interesting to be able to text them than to call and talk to them. Social networks have bought socializing to a whole new level. Families will post what they are doing and whats going on in their families. It’s amazing, we used to take road trips to see someone and technology has allowed us to stay in touch and i contact instantly. Get yourself a web cam and you can have an instant family get together.
The new found ways to stay connected seems to have people more disconnected than anything else. I believe TV have some real competition and that’s the smart phone. People who love their devices are more attached to them than they are attached to people. Nothing eases the tension one might feel in a new social setting than to reach for your cell phone to text or make like your sending a text so you can get comfortable in a new social setting. Reconnecting has evolved into meaning picking up your smart phone and calling when it used to mean putting it away to get some real face time with the ones your love and care about.
